Acupuncture in Pregnancy

Traditionally, Acupuncture intervention during pregnancy has been avoided in the treatment of pain and associated musculo-skeletal dysfunction, either because of the risk to the foetus or to avoid undue adverse effects to the mother.

This is a two-day post-basic training course designed to introduce Practitioners to the safe use of Acupuncture whilst managing the pregnant patient. The presentations by the Tutors will be tailored to meet the needs of the students.

All participants must have completed a recognised Foundation Acupuncture Course.

Acupuncture for Headaches

This course will look at the Myofascial component of headaches, which require the use of Trigger Point acupuncture to reduce pain and restore function. The course will address recent research advances in the field of neural inhibitory mechanisms, Myofascial pain physiology and acupuncture research, which will enhance students physiotherapy practice and manual skills.

The course provides a theoretical explanation using an evidence-based structure to demonstrate the physiological mechanisms of trigger point acupuncture incorporating principles and theoretical underpinning from Gerwin [1997, Travell and Simons 1992] whilst retaining the physiological theories of dorsal horn and descending acupuncture inhibitory mechanisms
